Welcome to Brathwaite Psychological Consulting, PLLC. In my boutique counseling and coaching practice I help high achievers who want to take their success in career and life to the next level. I look forward to partnering with you on your journey to reaching your goals. I provide a warm and supportive environment where you can feel understood as you do the deep work of creating change and moving towards your desired outcome. We will work together with a sense of curiosity, humor and targeted action. You can have the career and life that you desire. If you are feeling stuck or want to ramp up your personal or professional efforts, I am here to provide the counseling or coaching that can help you to get to the next level.

Scheduling/Consultation

It can be scary sharing your concerns with someone new. How do you know if the person will understand you, can help you or if you will feel comfortable talking to them? So much of what we know about the effectiveness of counseling has to do with the relationship between the counselor or coach and client. To ease concerns and help each client make the best decision for his or her needs, I offer an initial phone consultation. During the consultation I will ask you several questions to get a sense of your needs, and you will have an opportunity to ask me questions about my approach, experience or other pertinent issues. This is also a chance to get an initial sense as to whether we have rapport and if the services that I offer are a good fit for your needs. You can visit my online calendar to schedule a phone consultation.

FIRst Session

During our first session I will gather background information to better understand you and the issues we will be working on together. We’ll do a deep dive into your key concerns to get a broad picture of what you want to achieve and what might be holding you back. This is also an opportunity for me to tell you more about how we will work together and for you to ask questions about my approach.

Instead of fighting against areas where you struggle, we will identify strengths that we can focus and build on. I generally give my clients something to consider or review before the next session (like a mini homework assignment) to clarify what they want to get out of our work and help them continue growing between sessions. Career testing clients, for example, will be asked to complete career assessments before our next session to ensure we get the most out of our work together.

Continuing Sessions

During subsequent sessions, we will partner together to help you reach your specific therapy and/or coaching goals. I take an action-oriented, solution-focused approach that allows room to address issues that may emerge during sessions.

FAQs Clients May Have

"Do you accept insurance or provide a receipt that I can submit to my insurance company?" +

I am an out-of-network provider for insurance and will provide you with an itemized receipt that you can submit to your insurance company. Please note that career counseling is not covered by insurance.

“What methods of payment do you accept? Do you have a preferred method of payment?” +

I accept cash, checks and all major credit cards

“Do clients pay in advance or after the session or training is completed?” +

At the end of your first session, I will ask you for a credit card to keep on file in my secure online payment system. This can be used for payment for sessions and it allows us to spend more time in the session focusing on your goals instead of worrying about payment. You can also elect to pay by cash or check. All payment is due at the end of each session.

“How quickly can a client move from contacting you to the first session?” +

I can typically see a new client within 2 weeks, and at times within 1 week.

“What is your cancellation policy?” +

If you need to cancel for any reason I ask that you give me at least a 24 hours’ notice. This allows me to open up the session time for another client in need of an appointment. If you cancel less than 24 hours in advance, your card on file will be billed for the full cost of the session. I understand that on rare occasions an emergency may not allow you to cancel in time, in such cases, you will not be billed. Please note that insurance does not reimburse for cancellations.

“How long are sessions?” +

My sessions are a standard 50-minute clinical hour.

“Do you meet with clients on evenings or weekends?” +

Because I know that work schedules vary and can impact availability, I offer early morning appointments as well as Saturday appointments.

“Where is your office for Brathwaite Psychological Consulting, PLLC?” +

My office is conveniently located near most major subway lines as well as PATH and New Jersey Transit. The office is in a pre-war building and the suite is artfully decorated, colorful yet soothing to the senses.

“You offer counseling and coaching. How do I know what is best for me?” +

Though related, counseling and coaching are two distinct types of relationships. During our initial consultation we will discuss which modality will best fit your needs. If we begin coaching and it appears that you are in need of therapy, I will assist you with referrals to another professional. I offer career counseling, career testing, leadership and career coaching and counseling in person in my New York City office. My life coaching services can be done in person or via my secure videoconferencing system if you do not live in the New York City area
